National Asbestos Awareness Week 2025

National Asbestos Awareness Week 2025 (24 to 30 November) highlights an important reminder for everyone: “Think twice about asbestos.” This year’s theme encourages not only workers, but all Australians, to stay vigilant about ageing or deteriorating asbestos materials that may still be present in homes and buildings constructed before 1990.

Asbestos remains a significant risk when disturbed. Renovations, repairs or even routine maintenance can release invisible, deadly fibres into the air. Knowing where asbestos may be found and how to manage it safely is essential for protecting yourself, your family and your colleagues.

For guidance specific to our industry, further information on electrical infrastructure that may contain asbestos is available in the Electrical Infrastructure Asbestos Product Guide.

We also recommend reviewing the Guidelines for communicating asbestos risk to the public, which outline best practice for clear, accurate and effective communication about asbestos hazards.

In addition, ECA WA Business members can download our free Asbestos Pack from the business member resources page. This provides practical tools and resources to help businesses understand and manage asbestos risks effectively.
